 ARE YOU A
PSC MEMBER?

Check Your Pay Stub

State Payroll

If you are a PSC full-time, part-time or graduate assistant member at a senior college your pay stub will show a union deduction amount and will read:

PSC Dues
(If you are full-time member)

Adjunct Dues PSC
(If you are part-time member)

PSC Dues Grad Assistants            (If you are a graduate assistant member)

If you are a PSC full-time, part-time or graduate assistant agency fee payer (a PSC non-member) at a senior college your pay stub will show a union deduction amount and will read:

PSC A/S
(If you are a full-time non-member)

Adjunct A/S PSC
(If you are a part-time non-member)

PSC A/S Grad Assistants               (If you are a graduate assistant non-member)

City Payroll

If you are a full-time, part-time or graduate assistant PSC covered employee at a CUNY community college your deduction code will read:

  • PROF STF C-U  (PSC Union Members on City Payroll)
  • PROF STF CON (PSC Agency Fee Payers on City Payroll)

If you are unsure of your PSC membership status, please call the Membership Department at 212-354-1252 and we will will check for you.

Note:  If you are not a PSC member and would like to join the PSC, please call the PSC membership department at 212-354-1252 or send us an e-mail at pscoffice@psc-cuny.org.  Please provide us with your name, address and title and we will mail you the appropriate membership application card.

If you are paying dues in one position and hold multiple positions at CUNY, the city and state will not be able to automatically transfer your dues code to the other positions.  The agency shop fee deduction will be made from the other position(s).  On a future payroll, the PSC will send transactions to the appropriate city and/or state agency to change the deduction codes from agency shop fees to union dues for those who are members of the PSC.

If you have any questions regarding your PSC membership status, please call the PSC membership department.

PSC Membership Categories

                Full-time faculty and professional staff:

Agency fee payer is a full-time non-member of the PSC.  The deduction made from your paycheck is an agency fee that covers the cost of collective bargaining services to all members of the instructional staff.  This deduction is not union dues and it does not make you a member of the union.

A PSC member.  The PSC encourages you to join and become part of the active life of the union.  As an agency fee payer, you are not a member until you submit a completed and signed membership application card. Upon receipt of your application card, the PSC Membership Department will submit your name to the appropriate city or state agency to have your agency shop fee deductions switched to that of union member.  Your date joined with the union is the day we receive your membership application.

PSC membership entitles you to participate in the policy making processes of the union, the right to vote in contract referenda, the election of officers and the right to run for union office at the chapter and university levels.

Part-time faculty and professional staff:

Effective September 2001, for the first time in the union’s history, agency fees will be implemented to include part-time non-members of the PSC.  (This includes all adjuncts, graduate assistants, continuing education teachers and hourlies.)

PSC membership is open to all part-timers covered by the PSC contract.  The PSC encourages you to join and become part of the active life of the union.  As a non-member (an agency fee payer) you are not a member until you submit a completed and signed membership application card.  Your date joined with the PSC is the day we receive your application card.  See adjunct and graduate assistant membership regarding why you should join the PSC.

PSC Retiree Membership:

The Retirees Chapter of PSC/CUNY is the largest in the union with over 2,300 members. (We even have a branch chapter in Florida.)   Our major goal is to safeguard critical retiree interests, including Welfare Fund benefits.  The Chapter also participates in the PSC’s activities on behalf of our in-service colleagues and the University.  Through the political clout we gain from the PSC and its affiliates, we work to protect and enhance Social Security and Medicare benefits.  We are in the forefront of the continuing struggle for pension supplementation in New York.  At monthly meetings, we update members on issues of concern and present interesting speakers on a wide variety of topics.  Members can maintain social contacts with former colleagues and make new friendships.  The Chapter also sponsors two luncheons each academic year: a winter luncheon in January and an event in June that concludes our annual activities.  Members of the Chapter receive a monthly newsletter, PSC Clarion, the New York Teacher and two publications from the AFT.

For more information, or to discuss a mater related to the interests of retirees, contact Jim Perlstein, Chapter Chair, at 212-354-1252, by e-mail at jperlstein@bassmeadow.com, or by mail at the Professional Staff Congress, 25 West 43rd Street, New York, NY  10036.

Our affiliation through the PSC with NYSUT, AFT, the AFL-CIO and COMRO (Council of Municipal Retiree Organizations of NYC) makes the Retirees Chapter a powerful advocacy group.  We welcome your active involvement.

PSC Associate Membership:

Associate membership is available to individuals excluded form the PSC bargaining unit, to persons on leave without pay, and to those who are no longer employed by CUNY.  If you were enrolled in any insurance programs that are provided to our membership by our affiliate organizations, you would need to maintain PSC associate membership to continue in these programs.

To obtain a PSC membership application card, call the PSC membership department (212-354-1252) or contact your chapter chair on campus.  The membership department can answer any questions you have about the application process or membership rights.
