The City University of New York/Professional Staff Congress:  Application for Professional Development Funds in the Adjunct Series and the Continuing Education Teacher Series

In March 2007 we announced the opening of applications for the new PSC/CUNY Adjunct Professional Development Grants.  Grants of up to $3,000 per academic year are available to adjunct faculty who are teaching six or more classroom contact hours in the semester and to continuing education teachers who are teaching a minimum of 20 hours per week.  (Other eligibility criteria are explained in the guidelines brochure.)  The grants can be used toward research, courses, conferences, field studies and other activities that will enhance your professional development.

The PSC/CUNY Adjunct Professional Development Fund is one of the initiatives the Professional Staff Congress has won contractually.  It represents the first time in CUNY’s history that a professional development grant program has been offered to adjuncts and is one of the first such programs in the country.  Negotiating improved professional development opportunities for members of the bargaining unit is one of the ways the union seeks to improve the quality of work life at CUNY.

A grant application is available below.  Please read the enclosed guidelines carefully.  Completed applications should be mailed to: Adjunct PDF, PSC/CUNY, 61 Broadway, 15th floor, NYC 10006.*  Grant awards will be made after review of your application by a panel that includes your peers and that meets once a month during the academic year (except July and August).*  You will receive written notification of whether your project has been approved.

(CUNY retirees and CUNY full-time employees holding multiple positions as an adjunct are not eligible for these grants. )

NOTE:  On September 1, 2009 eligible Adjuncts and Continuing Education Teachers (CETs) may apply for up to $3000 per academic year in Professional Development Fund Grants.

*Effective October 1, 2009 all applications must be at the PSC by the 1st of the month prior to the beginning of the activity and must have approval prior to onset of activity.

The committee will send out letters of decision to all applicants by the end of the month.
